Improving Your Home With New Flooring

by admin on July 30, 2012

One of the first things that many people want to do when they buy a home is replace the flooring. This is especially true for those that have purchased an older home. Flooring replacement is a great way to upgrade your home, and add excitement and value to your home as well.

In the past when you wanted to change the flooring in your home your choices were limited. Most people had linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom, and then either carpeting or hardwood floors throughout the rest of the home. Nowadays the choices you have for flooring are vast. You can still have carpet, linoleum, or hardwood floors, but you can now choose laminate flooring, tile, stone, cork, and many other different types of flooring. The one that suits you the best will depend on your home, your lifestyle, and your budget. Let us look at some of the things that need to be considered when you are thinking about a flooring replacement project.

Beautiful wood floor in DenverSome of the things that you will have to consider when choosing flooring for your home are if you have kids or pets. If you have small children or pets you may want to stay away from hardwood floors. Hardwood floors scratch easily and are susceptible to water damage from spills. Any time something is spilled on hardwood it must be cleaned immediately or else it will stain the floor. Another drawback of hardwood floors is the cost, hardwood floors are expensive and can only be installed on the ground floor of your home. You cannot use hardwood in the basement or upstairs areas of a home. If you love the look of hardwood, but you have kids or pets you might want to look at laminate flooring.

Laminate flooring is much less expensive than hardwood floors, it is nearly indestructible, and is water proof. You can also install laminate floors in any area of the home, you can even use laminate in the kitchen or bathroom if you like. Most people cannot distinguish between laminate and hardwood, many laminate floors are as beautiful as hardwood. If you need durability another good flooring choice would be tiles. Tile floors create a classic beauty that is undeniable. Tiles are versatile, you can mix and match your tiles to create any type of design or pattern you can imagine. If you would also like an underfloor heating system tiles are one of the best flooring choices to use with an underfloor heating system.

You can also choose to have your floors covered in cork, bamboo, and a multitude of other types of flooring. Cork is soft and retains heat making it as comfortable as carpet to walk on. While cork is not the most durable type of flooring, it is tougher than you may think. Bamboo is a great choice in flooring as well. Bamboo floors give any home a great feel. These are just a few of the different types of floor coverings that are available. To choose the one that fits your life the best may take a little research.
