97% The Muppets

It would be easy to see The Muppets as a needless addition to a worn out franchise or a cash-in on sentimentality or the fact that anything deemed "family-appropriate" will make millions Thanksgiving weekend. While all of that is completely reasonable, even probable; the simple truth is that The Muppets is a good movie. I may get shot for saying this, but at times it almost surpasses it's source material. It's stupid, idiotic, loud, and colorful; but in all the right ways. It still has the dry, sardonic humor that has been at the core of all Muppet projects, but overall this just seems a bit sweeter and more optimistic overall. Normally, song and dance numbers in kids movies annoy the hell out of me - I honestly do not think that there has been a good children's musical since The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast. (Okay, Color's of the Wind isn't that bad either, but still..) Anyway, I really, really loved the song and dance numbers here. Overall, there were very few things that I did not love about this movie. It was uplifting and sentimental, but in a good way. It kind of makes me feel bad for being such a grouchy cynic at times.
